Asana Pricing — Every Plan Explained

What you actually get (and don't get) at each tier — plus the gotchas Asana doesn't advertise upfront.

Personal
Free

Up to 10 users

Includes

  • Unlimited tasks and projects
  • Basic list, board, and calendar views
  • Timeline view
  • Mobile app (iOS & Android)
  • Basic workflows & automations
  • 100+ integrations

Not included

  • Maximum 10 users — hard limit
  • No portfolios
  • No goals
  • No workload management
  • No advanced reporting
  • No custom rules/automations
Watch out: The 10-user limit is a hard wall. The moment you hire your 11th person, your whole team gets locked out of the free plan.
Starter
$13.49per user/month

$16.19/user if billed monthly

  • Private teams & projects

Not included

  • No portfolios
  • No goals tracking
  • No workload management
  • No advanced reporting
  • No custom rules beyond standard
Watch out: Custom fields are here, but if you need cross-project visibility (portfolios) or team capacity planning (workload), you still need Advanced. Many teams outgrow Starter fast.

Watch out: At $30.49/user, a 20-person team pays $7,317/year. That's a significant jump from $3,238 for Starter. Only worth it if you're genuinely using portfolios and workload management.

5 Asana Pricing Gotchas Nobody Tells You

1

The 10-user wall

The Personal (free) plan is capped at exactly 10 users. When your team hits 11, everyone loses access until you upgrade. There's no graceful transition — plan your upgrade before you hit the wall.

2

Per-user costs compound fast

Going from 10 to 50 users on Starter means $6,744/year vs $33,720/year. Every hire increases your Asana bill automatically. Factor this into your hiring cost model.

3

Portfolios and goals are Advanced-only

This is where many teams get caught out. You sign up for Starter, discover you need project portfolio views or OKR tracking, and you're suddenly looking at a 2x price increase.

4

Annual billing discount is real

Starter: $13.49 annual vs $16.19 monthly (17% savings). Advanced: $30.49 annual vs $36.59 monthly (17% savings). On a 20-person team, that's $1,464/year saved on Starter.

5

Guests don't count — but check the limits

Asana allows limited guests (external collaborators) who don't count toward your user total. But guests have restricted access and can't be part of more than a few projects.
